ONE MAT is committed to providing a safe online environment for every pupil at The Khalsa Academy Wolverhampton (TKAW) and ATAM Academy. This statement explains how we filter and monitor internet use in line with Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) and the DfE's Filtering and Monitoring Standard.
Our approach
Roles & responsibilities
A designated senior leader and governor hold strategic responsibility for filtering and monitoring at trust level, supported by the Technical Services Manager and Senior Technicians who manage the day-to-day technical provision.
Filtering
Internet access on Trust devices and networks is filtered to block access to illegal content and content that is inappropriate for pupils, covering text, images, audio, video and AI-generated material.
Monitoring
Device and network activity is monitored so that safeguarding concerns can be identified, attributed to the right pupil, prioritised and acted on promptly by our designated safeguarding leads.
Generative AI
We assess the risks of any generative AI tools introduced into our academies, review whether our filtering and monitoring provision can handle AI-generated content, and treat new AI tools as a trigger for review
The systems we use

These three systems form a multi-layered defence to keep pupils safe online:

Network Infrastructure & Standard Compliance (LGfL): Secures our internet connection at the boundary level, ensuring foundational filtering compliance with national education standards.

Active Boundary Filtering (School Protect): Works directly on top of our network to block access to harmful, inappropriate, or illegal websites before a page can load.

Proactive Device Monitoring (classroom.cloud): Operates on the devices themselves to catch concerning activity that filtering alone cannot block — such as harmful language typed into an offline document, chat box, or search engine.
Guidance for Designated Safeguarding Leads
classroom.cloud gives Designated Safeguarding Leads (DSLs) visibility of monitoring alerts and activity evidence. To use this information responsibly, DSLs should:
Treat alerts as a starting point
An alert indicates activity that may need attention. It is not, by itself, evidence of harm. Review the context before deciding on a response.
Follow safeguarding procedures
Any concern raised through monitoring should be handled in line with the Academy's Safeguarding Policy, in the same way as a concern raised by any other route.
Respect proportionality and privacy
Only access the level of detail needed to assess and respond to a concern. Monitoring data should be used lawfully, proportionately and transparently, and not for general surveillance.
Record and act promptly
Log the concern and any action taken in CPOMS safeguarding record-keeping system, and escalate promptly where a pupil may be at risk.
Limit access appropriately
Access to classroom.cloud's monitoring console is restricted to DSLs and named technical staff; access is not shared more widely than necessary.
Review regularly with Technical Services
DSLs and Technical Services meet regularly to review alert volumes and thresholds, so the system remains effective without generating unnecessary noise.
